Remember the hard work on our Junior Activity Day back in December? Well, that vision has officially taken flight!
The raised beds have been transformed from plain soil into a buzzing, fluttering hub of activity. Thanks to the foundation laid by our juniors and generous sponsors, our Bunnings Shirley – Monarch Butterfly Garden is now a thriving ecosystem in full swing.
🌿 From Garden Beds to Butterfly Wings The garden is currently in “full action” mode. If you take a stroll by the beds, you can see the entire life cycle of the Monarch unfolding:
-
Hungry Caterpillars munching away on the Swan plants.
-
Golden Chrysalises tucked away as they prepare for their big reveal.
-
Brand New Monarchs drying their wings and enjoying the vibrant wildflowers.
It is a spectacular sight and a fantastic real-world learning opportunity for all our boys to see nature’s wonders right here on campus.
📸 Capturing the Magic We haven’t let these moments go unnoticed! Our talentedShirley Photography students, have been out in force this term, capturing stunning shots of the butterflies and the garden’s progress. Their photos perfectly showcase the vibrant life that our community helped create.
This success is a direct result of the incredible generosity of Mike Drysdale and the team at Bunnings Shirley, who sponsored all the soil, flower seeds and plants. We also continue to thank Operations Manager Craig Minifie (father of old boys Val and Gio) for his essential support in delivering the goods to our school.
As the butterfly garden flourishes, we are excited to continue our partnership with Bunnings Shirley. We are already looking toward our next “greenify” project: revitalising the school vegetable garden!
Stop by the raised beds this week to see the hard work in bloom and spot a Monarch for yourself! Photo cred: Seth Shipley
