On Monday, the 17th of June first thing in the morning we took over 120 students up to Nelson College to compete in multiple sports for our annual sports exchange.
The teams that particiapated in the exchange were the Junior Rugby, Senior Rugby, 1st XV Rugby, Junior Football, 1st XI Football, Intermediate Basketball, 1st XI Hockey. With the 1st XV being an actual competition game for the miles Toyota competition, we went up in three buses and two vans and managed to be in Nelson by 3pm, we were meet by the school and then our boys were paired up with their billets and were taken for the night.
Tuesday morning was an early start as a couple of our sports were playing offsite and a wee way from Nelson College. Junior rugby and Senior rugby both played next to each other on horrible fields that were covered in water due to the heavy rain Nelson had over the previous week. Unfortunately, both teams went down in the end and Nelson took both the rugby games. Football also played off site with the juniors on one side of town and the seniors on the other, juniors went down in the last few minutes of the game and the seniors ended up coming away with a draw. Hockey played at Saxon Park and unfortunately we lost this as well. Basketball played at school and went down. The 1st XV being the main game also lost to a very strong Nelson team.
Not the results we were looking for but it was still a great trip and a good experience for our junior boys as for most of them it was their first trip away.
