Due to COVID-19 it has been three years since we have been able to have a full winter tournament week that involves winter sports playing at various tournaments throughout the country.

Shirley Boys’ 1stXI Hockey team completed in the Johnson Cup Hockey Tournament held in Christchurch, 29 August to Friday 2 September. This tournament involved schools from Auckland to Invercargill and it was fantastic to for the team to be able to compete against teams they do not normally play.

Results of the five games the team played at tournament are as follows:

· Monday 29 August

o v Marlborough Boys’ College won 3-1

· Tuesday 30 August

o v Macleans College won 2-0

This meant Shirley had won all three games in pool play and finished top of their pool and was playing Ashburton College in a semi-final.

Thursday 1 September

v Ashburton College lost 0-1

Friday 2 September

The Bronze Medal game saw us playing Macleans College which Shirley won 2-1.
