On Friday 24 April we held our annual Anzac Assembly. We were privileged to welcome a number of special guests, including members of the RSA, Marian College , Salesian College Sunbury, the Principal of Marshland School, and members of our School Board.
We held our annual ANZAC Assembly on Friday 24th of April, this is a very special occasion for our school and one that we are very proud of. It was a privilege to have a number of special guests including members of the RSA, Marian College , Salesian College Sunbury, the Principal of Marshland School, and members of our School Board.
Anzac Day is an important aspect of our culture, and we treat it with the respect that it deserves. We had boys wearing the uniform of groups they are involved in like the Cadets, St John Ambulance, and that is about recognising their service. That became the focus for our Anzac Assembly. We acknowledged those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, but we also acknowledged those who are taking on roles because we have that freedom. One of our teachers, Mr Ethan Evans is a volunteer fire fighter, and he talked to the boys about why he took on that role, and he challenged the boys to think about how they could contribute.
It was lovely to welcome back old Lincoln Jones, who played the bagpipes and Dante Ewings who performed the Last Post on the bugle.
The following morning myself and a group of Shirley Boys’ perfects attended the New Brighton ANZAC Parade where the prefects laid a wreath.
