Shirley Boys’ High School Year 9 Community Engagement Project; He manawa whenua
“He manawa whenua e kore e mimiti”
“Our connection to the community and the benefits of that can be viewed as “he manawa whenua” – the underground spring that has everlasting benefits on the area and the people, as this precious water resource continuously flows”.
All Year 9 students will participate in a Community Engagement day on Friday 22nd November 2019.
They will each be assigned an activity, which are all local and mostly all in walking distance. The activities are at Bottle Lake Forest, Waimari and North New Brighton Beaches, Mahingakai wetlands , running a Tabloids day with Parkview and Rawhiti Schools, Kidsfirst Kindergarten, Ferndale School and in the QE2 redevelopment area. Each class, and student, will be able to have a positive impact on one of these local areas and/or people. The day is aimed at building further connections with the environment our community and to make any positive impacts through cleaning up the environment, helping restore it and building connections with local tamariki and people.
The day will be run on Friday 22nd November, from 11am – 2pm. The boys will attend school as normal for the first two periods of the day. Following that, they will change into SBHS PE gear (with PE or House shirts).
Make sure you bring: PE gear, water, lunch, hat and sunscreen and warm top
The students will return to school by 2.30pm, to be released for the day.
