During the Term 2 holidays 22 senior Commerce students along with Mr Brendan Jackman and Miss Sue Nesbit headed off to Washington DC, New York and Santa Monica with the primary focus of looking at business, marketing, government and finance.
In the hot weather of a US summer the students covered many miles on foot and by subway.
A heavy nasty thunder and lightning storm in Washington DC curtailed the bike riding tour but we still managed to fit in a tour of the Capitol Building, Library of Congress, the memorial as well as some of the Smithsonian museums.
Then it was onto New York. The first morning we took in the atmosphere along with many thousands of US people of the ticker-tape parade for the US Women’s World Champion Football team. Much of lower part of Broadway was closed for the parade.
This was followed by a tour of Wall Street. New York was busy and full of new experiences including a Broadway show – Rock of Ages.
We finished with a trip up The Rockefeller Centre for a view of New York and the various places we had been. The last couple of days were spent at Santa Monica in a low key part of the trip as we prepared for the flight home and Term 3.
